Minimising or avoiding inadvertent exposure to pornography or the illegal redistribution of such materials
Peer-to-peer technology is a powerful resource that gives people the ability to find virtually any kind of digital media file. Peer-to-peer applications like Kazaa allow people to perform research, communicate, share ideas, and connect with each other across the globe.
Responsible, active sharing is the key to a great peer-to-peer experience, and it is the responsibility of each individual to carefully choose which files they share.
Sharman Networks has developed features in Kazaa that are designed specifically to minimize this risk of exposure: content and word filters. The adult content filter is turned on by default when Kazaa is installed.
By going to 'Tools > Options' and selecting 'Filter' you can change the settings to suit your needs. Filter options include:
- Family content filter - designed to filter out adult or offensive content. Choose from: No filter, Offensive Content filter, Adult Content filter, Images and Videos.
- You can specify words for Kazaa to block from Search results using the Blocklist. Read more about the Blocklist.
Sharman Networks has written a Guide for Parents with children using Kazaa which covers protection tools, safety tips and more information:
- Understanding how files appear in Kazaa
- How can I manage what my children see on Kazaa?
- How can I protect against viruses?
- What do I do if I find something that I think is inappropriate?
