Data Security and Kazaa

Files in your Kazaa shared folders are visible to other peer-to-peer (P2P) users. Other P2P users can view files that you are sharing and may choose to download those files from you. Read more about how peer-to-peer (P2P) works.

In Kazaa v2.5.1 (and above) a privacy feature was added, which means that, while users can find individual files that you are sharing, the list of files in your shared folder can only be seen by you. Read more about this privacy feature.

How do I know what I'm sharing?
The default shared folder is called "My Shared Folder" and is located at C:\Program Files\Kazaa\My Shared Folder. You can check which folder(s) you are sharing by going to the Tools > Options > Sharing screen (see below). It is safest not to share any other folders.

We recommend you open your shared folder(s) and check their contents. It is important to ensure that you are only sharing files that you have the right to distribute. If you are in any doubt about whether a file is copyrighted, please do not share it. Please also ensure that you are not sharing files which contain personal information, such as tax or bank statements.

For more information about sharing, read the section on sharing in the User Guide.
