How to use Kazaa Media Desktop (Kazaa) to minimize or avoid copyright infringement

It is important to ensure that you are only sharing files that you have the right to distribute. If you are in any doubt about whether a file is copyrighted, please do not share it.

What is safe to share?
Many files are safe to share. Files marked with Creative Commons Licenses may be shared and used in accordance with their license terms. Files that are in the Public Domain are also safe to share. You may wish to use Kazaa to promote and distribute files that you have created and own the rights to, for example your digital photos, short stories you have written or MP3's of your band's demo recordings. Find out more in the 'Make It' section of the User Guide.

How do I know what I'm sharing?
To check the destination of the folder that contains files that you are sharing, open Kazaa and go to the Tools > Options > Sharing screen. The default location is C:\Program Files\Kazaa\My Shared Folder. It is safest not to share any other folders.

For more information about sharing, read the section on sharing in the User Guide.
